Counseling for Teens

What to Expect
-
We believe anyone and everyone could benefit from counseling services, but only if they want help and want to put in the work. Often times, we hear the catch-all solution of, “You should go to therapy!” However, some are not ready for the effort and vulnerability required in therapy.
In our opinion, the most common reasons people come to therapy are feelings of anxiousness, feeling sad & low, feeling like something is “off”, being stressed out, struggling with life purpose, or wanting to discuss a traumatic event. Whatever the reason, we are happy to discuss it and hear your story.
-
During our phone consultation, we will get to know more about you and what experiences or topics you would like to focus on during counseling sessions. Our hope is that this is a casual, low-pressure discussion about what you’re looking for in a therapist, and what you would like to have happen as a result of counseling. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Please note that someone from our office will call you for a consult, not necessarily the therapist you are interested in working with.

It is normal to have a few 15-minute consults before choosing a therapist that is right for you. Generally, you want to feel as comfortable and open as possible with your therapist, as the relationship is the greatest predictor of therapeutic success and change. In short, you want to feel that your therapist “gets it”. Listen to your intuition when making the decision about who to see.
-
During the first session, we ask lots of questions to get to know you and your unique situation that’s brought you to seek help. Together we will decide what feels most pressing or important to process and resolve, and get specific about the things you would like to focus on during our sessions.
In subsequent sessions, we will hopefully gain more insight into the issues that brought you to counseling, highlight areas that seem incongruent, and cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself, your emotions and your mind-body connection. Each session will look different, and we typically let you lead in regards to what feels most helpful to discuss that day.

We are in-network with Aetna, Regence, Moda and Trillium OHP.
If you’d like to use your insurance to pay for sessions, let your therapist know and upload your insurance card with your initial paperwork.
Graduate Students are cash-pay only. Professional Counselor Associates and Licensed Professional Counselors are able to bill insurance.
If paying out of pocket, we are able to create an invoice (Superbill) for you to submit to your insurance provider to be reimbursed.
We encourage you to speak with your insurance carrier to verify coverage for both in-network and out-of-network providers, and for rates of reimbursement.

Yes! We reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots. If you need a sliding scale spot, don’t be afraid to ask.
We believe that everyone should have access to counseling if they want it.
Additionally, we love being able to offer our graduate interns as a discounted rate.

Our goal is to equip and empower you to eventually not “need” counseling. This could be as little as a few months to as long as a few years.
However, success looks different for everyone. Some have the goal of “completing” counseling while others enjoy having monthly check-ins, even if they are doing quite well.
We can discuss this more once we have a direction.
