Laura Parsons
Graduate Student Intern, Therapist
You may be wondering whether counseling is the right step, or if your experiences are “big enough” to deserve support. It is scary to take the first step towards healing and by reaching out, you are doing just that. My office is a space created with care—for you to slow down and be heard at your own pace. Your voice matters. In a world that often feels loud and overwhelming, I hope to provide a space that is calm, steady, and attuned to you. With me, you will be met with compassion, respect, and without judgment.
I use a trauma-informed lens and will partner with you to help make sense of whatever situation you are navigating. Pulling from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy and an attachment lens, I believe we have a deeply woven make up and story. Our attachment to our caregivers as well as our emotions shape us into who we are and tell us how to operate in the world. In addition, the stories we tell ourselves make a big difference in our day-to-day experiences. Together, we can work to re-author the unhelpful themes and narratives you may currently live from.
I believe healing often emerges when we do the intentional work of exploring our relationships, emotions, and stories—not alone, but in the presence of a compassionate listener.
I enjoy working with people from all phases of life, but I do take a special interest in helping others navigate relational pain, anxiety, life transitions, identity exploration, chronic illness, women’s health issues, infertility, and political or religious trauma.
I hold a BA in Business and an MBA from University of Sioux Falls. Through my work in business settings, I spent time observing how people adapt to high-stress, fast-paced environments—often at the expense of their own needs. These experiences continue to shape how I show up as a counselor, informing my compassion, my curiosity about the systems and contexts that influence us, and my desire to create space for my clients to pause, reflect, and care for themselves more fully.
I am completing a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Fox University. I use pronouns she/her. I am a married person and a new mom. Outside of school and the therapy office, I enjoy exploring the outdoors with my husband, little one and golden retriever, learning about small living spaces and interior design, listening to podcasts, cooking and hosting friends for yummy meals.
